ABC Taking "The View" To HDTV
For the first time ever, "The View," ABC's Emmy® Award-winning talk and entertainment program will be broadcast in HDTV. The HD broadcasts will begin on Tuesday, September 5 (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, ET) when "The View" begins its tenth season with new host Rosie O'Donnell and special guest Jessica Simpson.
"We're incredibly pleased that we will be able to bring "The View" to our daytime viewers in HDTV, "said Preston Davis, President of Broadcast Operations and Engineering for the ABC Television Network. "This continues ABC's strong commitment to providing the best picture and sound quality in order to enhance our excellent programming."
"The View" becomes the first show in ABC's daytime lineup to broadcast in high-definition. ABC currently broadcasts the majority of its primetime schedule in HDTV, including all comedies, dramas and theatrical movies, as well as the weekday and weekend editions of the popular morning news program "Good Morning America."
ABC has been a broadcast leader in providing HDTV programming to American viewers. Over the past decade, in addition to its regular schedule offerings, ABC has broadcast some of the most-watched events on television in HDTV, including numerous sports events such as the Super Bowl, the National Basketball Association finals, and the Stanley Cup finals, as well as the most watched entertainment special each year, The Academy Awards.
ABC also claims a number of "firsts" for its HDTV broadcasts, including being the first major broadcast network to broadcast in HDTV, with the theatrical presentation of "The Wonderful World of Disney: 101 Dalmatians" on Nov. 1, 1998. ABC also broadcast the first live, regularly-scheduled HDTV sporting event in primetime, the 1999-2000 season of "Monday Night Football," and was the first broadcast network to air its primetime programming in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound.
All of ABC's HDTV programs use 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format.
