Watching the development of super-thin OLED video displays is a lot like watching a baby grow up. The early pictures show a little, cute, and sometimes clever toddler, showing great promise. Soon the kid starts getting more sophisticated, like this 15-inch OLED HDTV from LG that goes on sale in Korea this November, and the rest of the world next year.
Of course, we're assuming you'll pay a pretty penny for this attractive, ultra-sharp bauble, probably in the neighborhood of Sony's $2500 11-inch XEL-1 OLED display that rolled out a couple of years ago. So LG is next. And then there were two.
Bigger OLED screens can't be that far off, but wait, now we find out LG's 30-inch OLED display has been delayed until 2012, and Sony is putting off its next OLED screen, too. What's the holdup? Entirely new manufacturing techniques must be developed. One day soon, though, these fantastic displays will be cheap.

| In our largest test of Blu-ray players so far, we found that satisfying picture quality has become almost a given, while features and price vary considerably. You can pay as little as $160 for a recommended model or as much as $500, depending on the capabilities, bells and whistles you’re willing to pay for. Portability commands top dollar. The first portable Blu-ray player we’ve tested, the Panasonic DMP-B15, is priced at $700. Our latest Blu-ray player Ratings (available to subscribers) include 27 models that have a few features in common. All have BonusView, a picture-in-picture feature that lets you view additional content in a smaller window while a movie is playing, and all can upconvert standard DVDs to quasi-HD resolutions. Only a handful of the players, mostly priced at $300 and up, have BD-Live, a feature that allows the player to access directors’ commentaries, deleted scenes, games, and more from the movie studio’s servers. Other models are BD-Live-ready. These players, all priced at $200 and up, have the required Ethernet connection, but need additional memory (typically a 1GB USB flash drive, which costs $10 to $15) for the BD-Live feature to work. Another feature showing up on some of the higher-priced models is the ability to stream movies from online services such as Netflix and Amazon Video On Demand, or receive music streams from Internet radio stations such as Pandora. And more players now have USB ports or SD card slots, so you can play digital photos, music and even videos on your TV. One model, a Panasonic, has a built-in VHS player, a space-saving option for those who still watch tapes. Again, you’re not likely to find these features on the lowest-priced players. | Blu-ray Gets Big Boost From Sony, Best Buy, and Apple (About.com, 9/28/2009 10:00am) |
| For those that are still Blu-ray doubters, the trend is against you. Blu-ray has not only been on a continuous growth pattern despite the current lackluster economy, but may experience substantially increased growth as a result of four new developments.
First: The large number of Blu-ray Disc players introduced at the recent CEDIA EXPO from both mainstream and niche-brand manufacturers.
Second: Sony has revealed that its new Playstation 3 Slim (which has a built-in Blu-ray Disc player) has sold more than 1 million units since it was released on September 1st.
Third: Apple is finally jumping on the Blu-ray bandwagon with an announcement that it will be including a Blu-ray Disc drive in its upcoming series of iMacs.
Fourth: Best Buy has announced that it will be marketing a new line of its Insignia-brand LCD TVs that will include built-in Blu-ray Disc players; just in time for the 2009 Christmas and Winter Holiday Season.

The Guinness Book of Records files some of the most interesting and utterly useless records for our entertainment, constantly looking for more weird entries to fill the books each year. A new entry into the Guinness book of records is the awesome High-definition (HD) video screen(s) present above the Dallas Cowboys' football stadium in the United states.
Manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric, the giant four-sided screen has a surface area of about 1058 sq m (11,400 sq ft). "This is probably the most exciting project we've ever been involved with," said Mark Foster of Mitsubishi Electric.
Mitsubishi said the video board is the equivalent size of 3,268 52-inch television sets, packs more than 10 million light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and with all four panels account for, weighs around 600 tonnes.

Toshiba has unveiled their first HDTV to use the extremely powerful PS3 Cell processor today during the CEATEC event in Japan, and the TV packs a serious punch.
Besides the processor, the 55-inch REGZA 55X1 includes LED-backlighting, 240Hz refresh rate, and dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. The Cell processor also allows for improved image quality, stronger colors, enhanced brightness balance and a "luminance of 1250cd/m²."
The TV also has a 7-speaker sound bar, and has DLNA support as well as a built in HD web browser created by Opera.
More notably, the HDTV has a 3TB HDD allowing users to record up to 26 hours of 1080p content from 8 channels, at the same time. As pictured below, the Regza can also display 8 channels at the same time, with no delay when switching between stations.
Toshiba also dropped word that they plan to use the Cell processor in an upcoming TV that will upconvert 1080p films to 3840 x 2160.
The TV will leave a dent in your wallet however, and is retailing for 1 million yen in Japan (about $11,000 USD) and Toshiba says it anticipates 1000 sales before release in North America next year.
