Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc (MDEA) 2005/ 2006 DLP Projection Televisions

Models: WD-73727, WD-73827, WD-73927, WD-73732, WD-73831

It has come to our attention that a limited number of these DLP Projection Televisions may have performance issues related to the Optical Engine used in these sets. As part of our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, MDEA is announcing an extension of the warranty coverage applicable to the Optical Engine for the models listed above. For a period of two additional years beyond the one year limited warranty, MDEA will cover the cost of repair or replacing the Optical Engine (parts and labor) at no charge to you. The Lamp is not part of the Optical Engine; therefore, replacement of the Lamp is excluded from this extended warranty. All other terms and conditions of the MDEA limited warranty will continue to apply.

I had my optical engine replaced under the Mits 2 year extended warranty they gave out about a year ago...Things went well for a while, but i'm starting to have the same issue with me screen again. Not even worth watching. So it appears the engine has failed once again.. do you think Mits. will replace it again for free? I believe the 2 years has already passed. I paid $4500.00 for this TV when it came out and has been nothing but trouble since I bought it 3 1/2 years ago. Any help will be great. Thanks.

It is possible Mits will help.

To find out, you will have to contract a Mitsubishi authorized service center to come out and diagnose the problem, and provide an estimate. Then you contact Mitsubishi to see if they will help and you will be asked to fax the estimate and sales receipt.

Good Luck!

As of today i'm completly satisfied with what Mitsubishi has "TOLD" me what they are going to do for me about my issues i'm having with my optical engine. I will not give details quite yet, because I don't want to get to exicited. I spoke with a Mitsubishi rep , not the customer call center in India. I'll post again after the issue is resolved, but at this point Mitsubishi seems to be standing behind their product and seems to be taking great concern of my problems and trying to get it resolved as soon as possible.

Hello .. Here's the story.. Mitsubshi has agreed to replace my TV with the WD73837 instead of replacing the optical engine again. They are requiring me to pay Ultimate Electronics $350.00 to do the deal. This includes delivery-setup etc. I tried to get out of having to pay this, but failed. Overall I think this is a fair deal considering my TV is completley out of warranty, including the two 2 years added by Mitsubishi. I think Mitsubishi went beyond what any other company would have done and tried everything to resolve the problem with ease. The only questions I have. Is the WD73837 a Diamond series? They assured me it was , but i'm having problems finding one on the internet to look at. I just want to make sure I'm getting equal value wth what I already have. What should I look for to make sure I'm getting the top of the line WD73837. I've heard they've done away with Diamond series. Any help will be great.. Thanks

My main question is .......Is the Mitsubishi WD73837 the top of the line model for 2010?

same problem with my 73727, engine replacd a year ago, failed again last week, now getting a bit of a run around from customer service, first person said probably better to replace the set "mitsubishi will call you". second call "to tell me wjat mitsubishi will do for you" acted as if they didn't know why they were calling me. after i got upset they asked me to fax them the receipt for the set and the documents from the last service call. i'm getting them now,but the salesman at the store said they usually replace the set, and the stand (new sets won't fit on the old stand). any idea who one can speak to BESIDES customer service? previous posts indicate another person or part of the compant.

i am finally speaking to a customer service person at ex #8 who has arranged for (at half cost to me) a diagnosis of the problem. hopefully some assistance afterwards. any info or testimonials about replacement sets after second light engine failure (in or especially out of warrenty) or other experieances in such situations (ie: refusal to replace, subsequent failure afrer set replaced, etc.) are appreciated.

i am semi-satisfied. they finally agreed to replace the set and stand (the stand replacement isn't for cosmetic reasons, the 727 stand won't accomodate the other 73" sets), but at a price of $650.00. and i was first only offered a 638 set, i only got a 738 after i asked for a supervisor. it seems that earlier folks with continual light engine failures got free replacement sets, then some were asked to pay about $350, and now, althought while it may be who handles the complaint, mitsubishi is getting tougher to deal with. best of luck to those who follow.

I would ask any reader to keep in mind that even in court there is considered reasonable use and lifespan, meaning, you did use the TV for an amount of time and that is considered wear and tear, defined in the business world as depreciation (and can be part and parcel of insurance policies). It is only reasonable to expect that the credit you receive (the value of the product) would diminish over time.

with all due respect, i have to question the value of additional "depreciation" in my case as opposed to others. i note that in january 09 mitsubishi replaced a 73727 (same as mine) with the then current 700 series at no cost. the last replacement noted in this topic was a new, for $350, 73837. i note the list price for that set was some $5,100, the msrp for the 73738 which i am to receive is some $2,400. i realize "list" price doesn't mean production cost, none the less it is a factor to consider. and finally, there was no inquiry as to hours the set was in use, nor was there in previously posted comments about replacement sets. that, as well as the age of the set, should be a factor in depreciation (as is the milage of autos when depreciation is figured). for what it's worth, i do think mitsubishi does go much farther than other manufacturers in assisting those with dlp light engine problems. i also think there is a reason beyond "good will" that they do. i wonder how serious a problem light engine failures have been.

Light engine failures occur regardless of brand. A high rate of failure has occurred for other brands and their specific models.

We can make many assumptions as to why Mits is assisting you. I suggest simply be grateful that they are.
