If you remember back in March of this year (Episode 76), we reviewed the Mvix 5000U multimedia player. We really liked it, but were hoping for the release of a wireless version. Well wait no longer, the wireless version has arrived. But not only is it wireless, it also fully supports high definition, so it's right up our alley...

Sounds pretty similar to the LinkPlayer I've had for a year, except that you can put a drive in it directly rather than only via USB.

I can't believe someone is releasing a new player right now which does not support h.264. There is a lot of h.264 content coming out of Europe right now, and I would never spend new money on a player that did not support it.

I've been pretty happy with the LinkPlayer after doing the two common upgrades (new DVD drive and removing the output filters). Will likely buy a new model when they support h.264.

Sure it does. Check out the specs here: http://mvixusa.com/product.php?product=mv5000u&page=specs

The latest box, the MX-760HD does as well. http://mvixusa.com/product.php?product=mx760&page=specs

They both take 3.5" IDE drives.

Yes, that's what I said: you can put a drive in it, unlike the LinkPlayer. And ti can't play h.264, which is becoming more and more common, and which ought to be a base feature in any player released these days. Either Silicon Image's new decoder chip which handles h.264 is out, or will be Real Soon Now (tm). I don't see why they are releasing a new player with the feature-set of one from 2 years ago. . .
