Synchronize problem...can anyone help? — Community

I have DirecTV HD and when I was watching a netowrk broadcast of golf this past weekend I noticed I would see the golf swing and then hear it a fraction later. It only happpens when I play the sound through my Home Theatre System. When I listen to sound through just the TV it is syncronized.

I am hooked up by HDMI HD Sat recvr to Sony XBR2 by fiber optic to Onkyo Sr674 receiver. All equipment is less than 2wks old. Why does this happen and how can it be corrected?

You should be able to adjust your audio delay through your Onkyo Receiver.

This should take care of the problem.

Not if it's getting to the receiver too late. Sounds like it's going to the TV via HDMI and then from the TV to the receiver via optical. The delay is in the TV.

See if the TV has any type of adjustment for this. If not consider sending the audio directly from the DirecTV receiver to the A/V receiver.

I can't tell you the exact origin of the problem; however I have a possible solution.
I have seen this effect when I am playing a HD-DVD on my Toshiba HD-DVD player. I stop the movie access the main menu, reselect my audio choice (Language), which is 5.1 or 7.1 (if available) Dolby Digital. I then return to the movie and the sound and the lips are "in sync".
If your receiver has the options of True Dolby HD or Super Dolby Digital, You don't want to try to use these settings with the DirecTV unless:
1)You have the MPEG-4 capable Receiver HR20-DVR
2)You have a TV capable of processing at 1080p
3)You have HDMI 1.3 output on your receiver and input on your TV
4)DirecTV is transmitting a source in which the audio is True Dolby Digital or Super Dolby Digital.
NOW , IF YOU HAVE EQUIPMENT THAT MEETS ALL THESE CRITERIA, TELL ME WHAT THEY ARE SO I CAN GO OUT AND BUY THEM!
Bottomline: We are not ready for enjoying the "Super Audio" formats. I keep hoping, though!
Anyway, unlikely you have this problem; try the "soft" reset under your "settings" option (if my memory serves); that may fix it, if it is a temporary glitch. Good Luck!

Umm.....what was in the manual? What did you change?

The receiver read that the delay was at -40 so I sync' it to -0-. It was a simple fix.

I guess the true test will be this weekend when I watch the Pebble Beach tournament. (I don't get a chance to watch alot of TV during the week being a step-father to two little girls)

I have a Denon receiver and for some programs I have had to make adjustments for the sound.
