Sibilance on HDMI between H20 and Westinghouse

So, I had my old DST3000 connected to my bedroom Westy 40" LCD and the DST3000 died this weekend. Went out and bought an H20 and swapped it out.

I found a few little quirks in the H20 that annoy me, like having to press the guide button twice.

One thing I am having a problem with, when using HDMI, is sibilance. I switch back to Component and 2ch, and the audio is clean.

Any thoughts?

I wish I could help, Raff, but I had to look up sibilance in the dictionary to find out what it was, so you can see that my level of audio sophistication may come up short. :) It seems like a problem you could only have with FM radio or the likes, and not with digital.

I guess you would have already tried all the usual suspects like switching cables and such. This may be one of those ones where certain boxes when hooked together with HDMI just don't like each other.

Well one is digital and the other analog...

Possibly settings from the source or within the display related to digital connections? If the display is HDMI then typically you get analog inputs for it for DVI sources; there is a bypass anyway...

Down conversion of 5.1 to 2 CH?

I'm leaning towards the DAC in the Westy. I tested my HR10-250 with the Westy and it did the same thing.

The display is HDMI and the H20 is HDMI, no DVI to use.

I did try setting DD5.1 to NO in the H20, but no luck. The best I got was reducing the treble on the TV a little. It helped, but not completely.

Went back to the Component w/ 2ch.

I have never tested it but I guess you have and it ignores the analog inputs if you use HDMI? HDMI did not always support digital audio did it? Could'a swore there was a brief period where it didn't... (inferring there should be a way to use analog inputs)

Hmmm....

I thought the side L/R analog ports are there only to support a DVI to HDMI connection, since there's no digital audio present in this case.

I haven't tested connecting both, but I will later.

As fas as I know, HDMI always supported (at least 2channel) digital audio.
