New Sony lcd rptv — Community

Newbie here, just had questions about the new Sony KDF-E42A10. New, using the 3lcd setup, and wasn't sure if anyone had gotten one yet, or the JVC 52" hd-ila. Kinda torn between the two. Picture was great HD and looked good in SD. (TV I watched was KDF-E50A10, as the 42" wasn't available yet, and JVC 527BP6). Will be viewing in living room (18x15), view dist. 8 ft. adjustable by moving chairs. ILA image was quite better but maybe too bright for home. Sony looked best in SD by using 4:3 mode.

Sony was at Tweeter, and JVC was at REX and BestBuy. Neither had really been calibrated, just "removed from box and plugged in", as sales rep. said.
Help please?? 1st venture into the HD world and don't wanna' mess up.

The quick answer to your question is if you were looking to have the display calibrated the Sony calibrates better. Many casual viewers would be happy with either. Resolution isn

Thanks for reply Richard. I would most likely be a casual viewer who will transition to a videophile the more I get used to HD. Also, of the 2 HDTV's i mentioned, which would be most reliable? Sony's name had always been great in d-v tv's and audio. JVC has always been great in audio, don't know about tv's. This purchase will be made with reliability in mind as well as viewing satisfaction. Spoke with a tv repairman just yesterday and he bought a Sammy DLP and thought it was great. Now having warranty repair being done. Seems like no one manuf. is perfect. Any input is welcome.

You won't have a problem finding folks to work on your Sony and that is the key as no one has a monopoly on reliability.

That kdf-e42a10 is amazing

. Just today i had hd cable card installed and every thing still great. Card had issues and not receiving all hd channels offered. Tech believes it's at the hub, not the card. The picture with normal broadcast is near hd quality. The tv setup is amazingly foolproof with the new Wegagate. Still, I bought the AVIA dvd and compared factory setting with AVIA recomm., hardly any variation!
Also bought the new Sony HD dvd player and using the hdmi input

I am on my 3rd geration HD TV. My first was a 64" PRO-700HD Elite. About 3 years ago I bought a 60" Sony KF60XBR800. A few months ago I bought a JVC DiLA 61Z886. It is a great TV. The image is beyond any other set I have seen including the 12k$ Sony LCOS set. Over the years visitors to my home have been impressed by HD but the JVC DiLA set is the first set that got rave reviews. Several friends have bought or are in the process of buying the same set. It only weighs a little over 100 lb and much easer to integrate into someones home. Prices have come down too. PRO-700HD $7400 KF60XBR800 $4800 JVC $3400. Go take a look at the JVS DiLAs they will knock your socks off. :lol:
