If you look at most of the reviews, the Panasonic Plasma's are considered top end as far as picture quality and overall viewing. Even their more reasonabley priced models get very great reviews. Take a look at Home Theater Mag. I have a 55" Panny in a very "bright" room and have no difficulty in viewing during the day if this is what is keeping you away from plasma.
Didn't realize the LG was a Plasma. Panasonic seems to have the most experience and widest range of Plasmas not to mention tops in all the reviews I've seen as I mentioned above.
My Panny was only $1,300 a couple of years ago and friends (with much more expensive TVs) are wowed everytime they see the uncalibrated image (I just used recommended settings from Home Theater Mag)

My Panny is a 55" G25 from a couple of years ago--2D only so can't comment on the 3D. BTW--bought this from Amazon on a "Gold Box Deal"--their service is excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to buy electronics from them again. When my TV arrived the shipper had it lying on it's side--I called Amazon and they said to refuse delivery and they sent me another immediately.
The Feb/Mar issue of Home Theater Mag tests the LG 8600 series(LCD) and the Sony 55" 929 series ($3,500). The Sony is the only LED I think they've rated very slightly higher than the Pannasonics, but the 65" Panasonic VT50 is only $3,700 (list price) so it's a much better deal.
They rate the Pannasonic 55" ST 50 series (from July) almost as good as the VT50 series and the 55" is only $1,700 (list price). The VT series is the current model similar to mine, but it is 3D. Consumer reports also gives the Panny's high marks.
I don't pay attention to what they say about 3D (as it is of no interest to me) so can't help you there.
You might be able to see their reviews online. If not, if you buy the current issue it has a summary of all their tests near the back.
