Well I made the plunge today with my first 3d tv. I'm Really Excited...
I will be hooking it up tomorrow.
I got the LG-55LM8600 at a local store for $1500.
I have a couple of Newbie questions.
It comes with a 1 year man warranty. The sales rep was REALLY pushing their 5 year "everything" warranty for $399?
I did Not take this warranty. I still have 30 days in case I want to get it? I see the value of 5 years of security, but Wow that is a steep price.
What is your opinion on extended warranties. Are they worth it? Should I reconsider? I would hate to have something happen in 14 months and not have it, but do not want to waste my money.
Also does anyone know where I can find the calibration settings for this model tv?

NOPE ... even though it's an "LG" rather than the Panasonic which would have been preferred, those ~ $400 are Far Too Much, in my opinion!! ...
AND ... sounds like you unfortunately used "B.B." as the Vendor??? ... they or their outsourced Insurance Vendor more-than-likely WON'T be in existence, come that far into the future!
NOPE ...one can NEVER make appropriate use of Any Other One's numerical "SETTINGS!" ... each HDTV is unique ... buy a Calibration "DVD" set ..or.. have a certified Calibrator "DO IT!"
(1) = Had the purchase been at ..or.. from a "Costcos" ..or.. even a SAMsCLUB ... then, you would have had entirely different set of choices.... the former automatically "adds" a free additional Year ... the latter NEVER charges such Outlandish fees for Extended Warranty.
(2) - Wait until that Display Panel has accumulated a number of operational hours before either "doing" ..or.. paying for any 'Calibration!" . . . . "DO" reset it from that default of "VIVID" ..or.. "Store Display"
(3) - depending upon your particular Market ... some Cable Vendors REQUIRE that an entirely-different Cable Set Top Box and it's associated mandatory "Increased" channel count be also BOUGHT / Established, in order to receive your very-limited 3D viewing signalling!!
Consumer Reports reccomends that you do not buy the extended warranty as electronic units usually fail during the first 90-120 days if they are going to fail. That being said, check your credit card as many double the manufacturers warranty. If you really want to buy a warranty there are many 3rd party companies who will sell them to you---you just have to do the research to find the best deal with a realible company.
Home Theater Mag tested your exact model in the February/March issue and it got a very good review--seems like you got a good price also. If you go to their website you should be able to find their calibration settings. If they are not there yet just keep checking back as they just did the review and sometimes they don't publish them immediately. Also, check with other sources that have reviewed the product. While these may not be "perfect" for your viewing room I think they are a good starting point and most of us will be satisfied with them. Once broken in you could buy your own calibration disk and tweak the settings from there, but I'll bet you'll be happy with them. A full on calibration is going to cost you about $300-400 if you want to go that route which is certainly the "best" way to get your picture to it's highest quality.

I used John Eye Big Sandy Superstore $1500 was a good price, but I could have got it on Amazon for $1550.
My thinking was the advantage would be if anything went wrong in the first year I could just return it to them.
I would like to calibrate my tv. I will be setting it up tonight.
