Shane:

How do you visualise this technique being applied ? Does it take the shape of a single STB with satellite receiver units attached to the other various Home Theatre components, and does it eliminate the use of HDMI cables ?

I have an article coming out soon which will summarize some of these things at CES, but in short ...

The demo they had was a "cart" about 3 ft high and about 2' x 2'. They placed a camera on this cart, which was about 10 ft from the TV and showed how they could play video.

It is a quasi-line-of-sight technology. What I mean is that you can't yet put your components in the closet, but you can put them across the room. It has technology that allows it to "route around" objects or people that may be in the path.

I do not yet know (and didn't ask) if this could be built into furniture, nor do I know yet when it will be available and for what cost.

I'll know more soon.

Thanks, Shane, I was hoping that it would more along the lines of a STB much like an AppleTV box or something similar. Doesn't sound as though it is aimed at the average video enthusiast, more towards the business presentation application. Pity.
