Englewood, Colo., - January 23, 2008 - "Ushering in the new year on a great note, Starz Entertainment has finalized deals with five major studios," announced Stephan Shelanski, Starz executive vice president programming. Its exclusive first run output deals with Sony Pictures Television and Disney-ABC Domestic Television have been extended well into the next decade, and library acquisitions from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, MGM Worldwide Television Group and Universal Pictures will provide the rights to approximately 1,200 top movie titles and television series from these studios' substantial film vaults. I understand your frustration. I wish, and I so advised the industry NOT to come to market with two formats, but, as you painfully know, they did. In the process they have made themselves out to be the bad guys and made folks so boiling mad that they will even cut off their own noses to spite their face. _Dale

But you won't get 1080p or the newer audio formats - or the extras. Not saying you need them but there is a difference.

My receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs (and it's not that old). At least HD-DVD players with Analog outputs are reasonably priced. So I was planning to get one. But the Warners issue has effectively torpedoed that option.
And, like most people, My set is 1080i so I won't miss 1080p. As for extras, if I need them, I can always get it on Standard DVD. Don't need HD for an audio commentary. Besides, most of the titles mentioned may not come out on HD disc for years...if ever! If the BR mantra of "Content is King" is truly valid, then the Starz announcement is a Royal development.
Especially since I already get more movies in HD than any disc format has provided. (TOUCH OF EVIL in HD was stunning!)
