SPEED will make its move to High Definition in 2008, beginning Feb. 7 with 100 hours of NASCAR on SPEED HD from Daytona Speedweeks.

Topping the 70-million U.S. household mark and coming off four consecutive years of ratings growth in 2007, the move to High Definition is the next step in the evolution of a network that has added more than 30 million homes since being fully acquired by Fox Cable Networks in 2001.

Does anyone know if Dish Network will carry Speed HD? More importantly, will it be included in my Dish HD subscription as a value add?

Hard to say at this time, but if they can fit another 10 pounds of programming into their existing 5 pound bucket I'm sure Charlie will find a way. There were a couple of channels that DirecTV announced in their press release last week that DISH doesn't currently have. I'd expect an announcement soon about several new additions to their lineup.

At this time both the Echostar XI, XII and DirecTV 11 launches are held up due to problems with the Sea Launch space vehicle launch platform which is undergoing repairs due to a failed launch attempt back in January. Apparantly a loose bolt inside the launch vehicle caused problem with the boost rockets resulting in the vehicle falling to the pad deflector shield and exploding!

If I were a betting man I'd say neither vehicle will launch before 2008.

To answer you original question I'd say the answer is probably yes, may be overly compressed until the satellite fleet is augmented sometime in 08 but it'll be assigned a channel number come February.

Enjoy, John

Maybe soon you NASCAR guys will be able to hear what 19 thousand rpm sounds like in DD5.1, and 2 million pixels making a right turn looks like.

And no passing.........

How about "almost no passing"?
