I do all of my HDTV editing on a custom made laptop and although Sony offers it's own laptops with bluray drives, none seems to be available separately. Cute. But dumb marketing.....if you really wanna promote your blu ray format, I would think......

OK, so how about an external burner that doesn't cost an arm and both legs??

Or better yet, why doesn't someone make a combination burner/player that has USB 2, sata and firewire outputs and also HDMI and component video outputs? Or is that an impossible order? A drive that can be used for burning blu ray discs from your PC and then plugged into your TV or home theater and used as a player......now THAT would be innovative....

I would be surprised if either side of the HD camp made drives commonly available for quite a while. After all they might be vulnerable to pirating - at a level that might have real impact.

I don't remember hearing if the HD codes are cracked but it is inevitable.

in terms of notebook blue-ray drives, Mark at killernotebooks.com is offering internal Blue-ray drives (the main thing here being that he offers blue-ray writer drives) for his laptops. He is the owner of killer notebooks and builds all his systems. Jerfilm, Id suggest emailing him if you are trying to find one for your laptop.
