Hockey Night in Canada in HDTV premieres on Saturday Nov 5th — Community

CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA launches its high-definition television (HDTV) broadcast schedule for the 2005/06 season on Saturday, Nov. 5. Viewers can catch game one of the Saturday night doubleheader in high-definition (HD) starting at 7 p.m. ET as the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning hit the ice in Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs.

I'm jealous! We are stuck with OLN's lousy SD picture for national games, and worse yet, my Rangers are on MSG, which is available in HD only on a couple cable systems. Hockey has to the worst sport to watch in SD.

It's so absurd that the struggling NHL would present their product in the worst possible light. Newcomers to the sport always complain that they can't locate the puck. Hell, I can't even read the #'s on the jerseys now. I don't know if it's possible, but it seems like the SD picture has actually gotten worse since hockey was on two years ago.

If you have DirecTV..........HDNET is showing the NHL in Hi-def!

Yes, but when the Rangers were on HDNET it was blacked out!

Some government entity needs to take over this HD mess and put the needs of the viewer first. There's way too many little fiefdoms throwing their weight around against each other. For instance, Cablevision owns MSGHD and Directv can't put it on because of the Cable-Sat wars. There's also cable system vs cable system wars all over the country that exclude consumers from seeing the best possible picture available.

Congress is so fond of saying that the airwaves are owned by the people, yet they allow us to be gouged by government sactioned monopolies. At least mandate that they give us a show in HD when that show is available elsewhere in HD.
