CBS to air the PGA Championship in HDTV

CBS Sports will broadcast the 87th PGA Championship in HDTV (High Definition Television) for the second consecutive year, during its live 18 hole-coverage of the third and final rounds. The HDTV telecast of the PGA Championship will originate from Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J. on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, and Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005; (2 p.m.-7 p.m., EDT; both days)...

What a great surprise to see golf in HD on Direct TV ch. 80, the CBS feed. It looks much the same as The Masters production, with about 60% of the shots in HD. I did not hear anything about plans to show it in HD, so this is really a marvelous bonus. It looks absolutely gorgeous. Get your golfing friends over to see the last round tomorrow, and they will have an HD set next week. Thank you, CBS!
