Post by Shane »

The new pocket-sized Sony HDR-TG1 Handycam(R) camcorder's weighty high-definition capability will appeal to vacationers who prefer to "travel light."

This diminutive camcorder weighs in at only ten ounces. It has an ultra-portable body measuring just 1.3-inches wide by 4.7-inches tall by 2.5-inches deep.

It is a full-featured camcorder that can record...

Not 1080P, 1080i

Sony calls this FULL HD, which to some means 1080p, it appears to be 1080i according to engadget and other sites.

From Sony's product page:

"1920x1080 Recording
Record stunning, incredibly detailed video footage in the clarity of 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution."

I have not looked at the unit itself, but from everything on the page above, it indicates that it will record 1080p. Do you have links to the other sites reporting otherwise?

Thanks,

I can't find anything at the Sony site that clearly says what it does without marketing terms. Like displays I bet you can claim 1920X1080 provided the vertical count is close.

Some interesting points

Pixel Gross
* 2360K

Video Actual
* 1430K Pixels (16:9), 1080K Pixels (4:3)

Still Actual
* 1490K Pixels (16:9), 1990K Pixels (4:3)

1080X1920=2,073,600 or 2073K pixels making the Sony over 500K pixels shy

Could be errors at the site...

I'm trying to follow your math there Richard:

If you're comparing 2073k to 1430k ... that's over 600k pixels shy. I'm guessing you just forgot to carry the 1 ;-)

Next question:
Why have pixels you never use?

I'm not a camcorder technical guy but I bet it is related to feature sets... One thing is clear, it can't be a full 1920X1080.
