Sinking of the Lusitania: Murder at Sea - Discovery HD

Post by hidefbob »

Plot ... In 1915, the Lusitania was the fastest, biggest and most glamorous ocean liner in the world, crossing the Atlantic between New York and Liverpool. When the luxurious liner was torpedoed by a German U-20 sub off the south coast of Ireland, it sank in just 18 minutes, losing 1,201 of the 1,962 lives onboard. Until this moment, the U.S. had maintained a neutral stance but "Avenge the Lusitania!" was the battle cry that drove American men to enlist for the First World War. Premiering Sun., May 13 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT on Discovery Channel, "Lusitania: Terror at Sea" explores the controversy and conspiracy theories surrounding the deadly voyage.

The sinking of this great ocean liner provoked outrage on an unprecedented scale and marked a pivotal moment in the Great War. It was the first time non-combatants, women and children were entangled in an increasingly mechanized war. But more than 90 years later, mystery still surrounds the attack. Was the ship as innocent as she seemed? Had the British government secretly used a passenger ship to carry explosives? Worse still, had they deliberately sacrificed the Lusitania to bring America into the First World War? With new research and evidence, this two-hour docudrama explores these questions and brings the events on board both the liner and submarine to life, revealing how the political and intelligence communities failed to stop the tragedy.

Repeat Telecast shown Wednesday August 22, 2007 ... Discovery HD (Canada)

Docu-Drama ... a re-creation of the events prior to, during and after the sinking.

HDTV with DD5.1 sound ... 1 hour 20 minutes

Thoughts ... I think this is very good docu-drama which is accurate with fine attention to detail. Picture quality was very good. Included some original footage of the Lusitania leaving the docks in New York and at Queenstown Harbour where the survivors and dead were brought.

I looked ahead as far as my IPG will go. Did not see it repeated. However, I will watch for it and let you know as soon as I see it.

Dish Pass

If you have the Dish net VIP-622 or VIP-722 you can set a Dish Pass for it. The whole name won't go into the search but enough fits that it should show up when it is repeated.
