Zodiac on DVD

Post by hidefbob »

Plot ... Based on the actual case files of one of the most intriguing unsolved crimes in the nation's history, "Zodiac" tells the story of a serial killer who terrifies the San Francisco Bay Area. Taunting police with his ciphers and letters, the murderer eludes investigators in four jurisdictions. The case will become an obsession for four men as their lives and careers are built and destroyed by the endless trail of clues.

Cast ... Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards, Dermot Mulroney, Chloe Sevigny.

Comments ... I found this movie to be really fascinating. It is a chilling, haunting film about a real criminal case. Despite the fact that it is a long movie with lots of facts and police proceedings, I never found the movie tedious. I was engrossed in the movie from beginning to end. And it is a excellent character study with some very good performances. I highly recommend this movie!!! Go out and rent it tonight!

Note ... in 2008 there will be a Director's Cut which will include scenes not shown in the theatres and lots of extra features including a presentation of all evidence collected at the murder scenes.

I agree, this film has a lot of exposition. It is unavoidable considering the amount of evidence they present to the audience, giving us the feeling that we are judging for ourselves who the killer is.

Although the director is fairly restrained in his depiction of the two murders shown, the second one gave me nightmares like I have'nt had in decades. The no frills killings, so simple I can't even remember if there was music, drew me into the experience of the two victims as they died, no fanfare, no overacting, just the horror of dying without warning.
