Wall / ceiling / flush-mount speakers.

Post by jimadams »

I did a bit of searching here but didn't come up with anything. Question is, does anyone have any experience with in-wall/ceiling, surface-mount speakers? I'm thinking of the normal 4-8ohm type not the 70V type. I know that there are a lot of non-powered units out there but what about self-powered as in speaker + associated amp in the same "unit"?

The application is for distributed, mult-room 2-channel home audio.

I'm thinking this would make sense (i.e. amp is local and tailored to the requirements of the speaker). I'll do the Google research but wondered if anyone has any hands-on installation or listening experience.

Likely not as that would only make the concept more difficult since you would need 120VAC and that typically comes with a licensed electrician.

Yes re line voltage units. These would have to be "low voltage" amps in the realm of good car audio amps - 12V, maybe 24V to get around wiring code issues.

I'm going to research this but thought I'd throw out a line here as well.
