Aviator - DVD

Post by Tombanjo »

I watched this story about the early life of Howard Hughes at a buddy's house in two channel stereo because of a huge wife factor there prevents the poor bastard from augmenting his 60" lcd with a kick ass sound system. A shame. It's been a long time since I watched a movie in 2 ch and it really sucks! But I digress.

Aviator could have been great, but due to what was probably Martin Scoresse's heavy hand over the editing process, what we got was only a good movie with some great performances, esp by DiCapprio. We all (inc. the critics) thought the movie was too focused on Hughes' abnormal behavior while other, more interesting story lines were going on all over the place. Way too long, probably because of the director's free reign over the process. Sometimes having a heavyweight director isn't always the best thing. Still, a very enjoyable slice of history.

I have to totally agree with Richard on this one. Had a friend over to watch on my system ... we both really enjoyed this movie!

And there is some great stuff on the 2nd DVD about Howard Hughes. It is amazing what he and his corporation have contributed technologically!

I notice that no one has a said a word about goofy color... Was talking with a colleague to confirm this and indeed you do not want to use this movie as a reference for display performance. The first half of the movie looks like early days colorizing of a black and white film, yuck!
