How many bits are used in any video or audio digital system will directly affect quality especially when it comes to scaling and processing. 8 bit is the base standard of video and if you do not manipulate anything then there is no foul. Catch is nearly every product is manipulating it for some reason so we really need 10 or 12 bit processing to remain artifact free.
