You must have an old speaker if this is your problem. Symptoms are noise or rattling during specific passages of music.
The surround is the material between the outside frame and the cone of the driver that allows the cone to move back and forth while remaining aligned. While replacing the driver is certainly an option the original is typically very expensive and using an after market substitute only opens up a can of quality worms to deal with. The most cost effective and quality oriented solution is to have the surround replaced instead. Check your local yellow pages for a speaker shop near you to obtain this service.
This service typically applies only to round home audio drivers and not elliptical car audio speakers.
