General: Remote - Intermittent operation

Post by HD Library »

Remote control problems related to a failure within the TV are very rare. More often than not this symptom is caused by a faulty remote or customer error. For many years now original manufacturer remotes have been multifunctional or universal so you can use one remote to run your system. This is accomplished by selecting what product you wish to control on the remote such as cable, DVD or audio which commonly is at the very top of the remote along with a TV button. When you select DVD as an example then most if not all of the buttons on your remote will only operate the DVD player. If you push one of these function buttons inadvertently the remote will not control the TV again until you push the TV button.

Many will change the batteries to fix this problem and start to think it has something to do with batteries. Nope. By removing the batteries and reinstalling the same or new ones you have only reset the remote which puts it back in the TV position which is why it suddenly works.

The best test if you think your TV or remote is giving you trouble is to grab a universal or another original equipment remote in your batch that supports multifunction and set it up for a simple TV function such as power. When the remote you are using ceases to work grab the other one and see if it works. If it does than it has something to do with your remote. If not then you definitely have a TV problem.
