Typically associated with CRT display it is the horizontal void or dark space you see between the scan lines that makes it obvious you have scan lines. Simply view any old analog TV up close and you will see these lines. Seeing them means you are seeing picture structure which is an artifact. Increasing your viewing distance makes them disappear. If your display is multscan then you would select the scan rate which causes them to just barely touch removing the voids.
