C-Band: Recording HD

The only way I know to record HD C-Band is with a www.169time.com
"enhancement" and a 1394 HD-VCR like the JVC 40K, although I seen posts of
some people on AVSForum that can use the 1394 output into a PC and play the
files back with an HD-tuner card, like my HiPix, but I do not have the
169time enhancement so I cannot vouch for this. The enhancement goes to the
HD-decoder box, not the C-Band receiver. The cost of the enhancement is

Additionally, as of yet, I believe those HD VCRs are a short-lived item, and
I prefer to watch the HD live, or recorded from a digital channel and scaled
up. I can record digital channels to S-VHS, and scale that up during
playback, too.

Still, the HD from C-Band has much greater color depth, resolution, and
clarity than from a mini-dish. My personal comparison was based on DirecTV
HBO vs. C-Band HBO when DirecTV had HBO HD in the clear about a year and a
half ago or so. Cable HD is a bit closer (I had it for a month), but it was
still noticeably inferior to my eyes. Last but not least, the DD 5.1 sound
from C-Band, both from digital and HD channels is better, too.
