Hello everyone,
I am looking to buy my first 3d tv and need some help. I would like to purchase between a 55 and 60 inch model.
I have found the LG 3D 60" 1080p Plasma HDTV with Pentouch Display for $1300.
I do not care about the pentouch display but think this is a good price.
Can someone please give me some recomendations on a good 3d tv, size 55-60 inches..
Thanks so much..

Consider the high end version of the Sharp Aquos 60" LED. We purchased the 60LE845U this past Nov, and really like it. We got it at BestBuy. I think this model might be exclusive to them, and others sold the 847 which is very similar but not exact. I also noticed BB had lowered the price on this again a couple of weeks ago when I was in the local store.

Thanks. Can you give me your experience with 3d on the Sony.
Is it active or passive.
How many glasses did it come with.
Does it have 2d to 3d. Conversion.
Thanks

If you can control the light on your viewing environment and appreciate image quality plasma is the way to go, and within plasma Panasonic is on top and then Samsung, but that means to accept 3D active shutter.
Panasonic has received the best consistent reviews on the ST and VT series and the GT series in between will be replaced by a single ST series in 2013 a few months from now, so this may be the best time to get a 2012 model on sale, which is exactly what I did with a GT earlier this year.
I just saw the new Panasonic 60 line models at CES and they are excellent, the new top of the line will be now ZT, then VT, then ST.
If you only accept passive 3D the only way is LCD/LED but then you have to accept its constraints of image quality, half resolution 3D per eye, and limited angle of view.
Sony only makes LCD/LED panels (your question), they are all active shutter, except for their new UHDTV 84" LCD/LED panels.

You mentioned about 3D glasses. We have experience with both the Sharp Aquos 60" and the Mitsubishi 82" DLP. Would love to share glasses between them, but not easily done. Both are active (preferred IMHO), but one is IR and one is RF. we use Sharp and Sony PS3 glasses with the Sharp, and Samsung glasses with Mitsu. I like the ability of the Sharp & Sony glasses to block side light, but don't really care for their USB charging. Not a bg deal tho'. The Samsung's use a replaceable CR battery. Guess it depends on whether you the kind of person who stocks batteries for replacement in advance, or goes to the store only when (and after) needed. Both work ok for those wearing glasses already, at least based on I and my wife's use.

LG Display has been dedicated to passive 3D LED and OLED, they supply their panels to LG Electronics, and others.

Rodolfo, have you seen the new Samsung F8500 series. The 50" at about $2200 seems good. Long time my old friend.

Hi Hugh, good to hear from you, long time indeed, no CES for you this time?
At CES I have seen the 2013 plasmas from Samsung and Panasonic and was impressed by the improvements, which I thought they could not improve further their excellent image quality.
I still prefer Panasonic over Samsung in terms of image quality and plasma effort unless there is no Panasonic, or a Panny set is not available, or the price difference is not close, or hard to resist, regardless if Panasonic ends plasma manufacturing as rumored by the naysayers.
Compare apples to apples, take into consideration packages that Samsung offers typically with an included Blu-ray player and 3D glasses, which you may not need but have no choice.
I did compare the 2012 models side-by-side and Samsung's were just a bit brighter and still produce a natural image, which may be important on illuminated environments for those that would not want to compromise in image quality if going to an unnatural LCD.
If I am not wrong Samsung's 2012 stand was a bit too loose, maybe is corrected on the 2013 model but had no chance to check that yet because they were mounted at a wall at CES.
Consider that the Panny 50" GT50 2012 model (one below the VT line) is currently offered as a close-out for $1200 at Best Buy while Samsung's 8000 line 51" goes on sale for $1100.
The GT line is discontinued for 2013 and is of very good quality, I would not be surprised if I end up buying another one I do not need as I did last year (you motivated me now, there is always another room to benefit).
However, I would not recommend spending $1000+ extra for a 2013 model of the same size (the 8500 51" as you mentioned), when available, unless you want the absolute greatest and latest, such as gesture-speech recognition, pop-up conference camera, Smart-touch pad remote, quad-core processor, etc.
My best for you and Linda. I just came back from Argentina celebrating Mom's 98 BD, years certainly pile up faster on the last curve, but we both know that Hugh. So, on second thought, get the greatest and latest and enjoy while you can Hugh.
Best Regards,
Rodolfo La Maestra
