HDTV Almanac - DLP Still Alive

Post by alfredpoor »

I have often said that you could take a rear projection television, dip it in batter, deep fry it, and cover it with powdered sugar and the average American consumer still would not buy it. So the news is that Mitsubishi still has not given up on rear-projection DLP televisions. Yes, their pricey LaserVue sets [...]

DLP 3D HDTV

Post by retinadoc »

I have my eye on this set and after reading about head tilt and ghosting on the LCD sets, I've just about made up my mind. Hard to beat the price. In my family room there is an area made into the wall under the stairs for TVs. So I can essentially turn any TV into a flat panel as it's flush with the wall. Are there any reviews on these sets?

These TV's are great and Dell usually has fantastic deals on them. I picked up the 65-837 last year for about $1000 and last Fall was able to snag the 60C9 (same as the 60-737) for $600.

I now have 3 DLP displays (60, 65, 65) and they're all great. They're not an inch thick, but who cares? With a depth of less than 18", they look great on just about any stand.

I purchased a Samsung 61A750 when they first came out two years ago and I love it! My best friend's wife just bought one of the new Samsung LED side lit TV's that are only an 1" thick, which looks great, but honestly, I think my DLP set looks at least as good, if not better... 1080P from a BluRay is 1080P, regardless of what you watch it on. I would highly recommend it.

My 8 yr old 1080i Mitsubishi Rear Projection CRT still has a great picture, even with 1080p sources converted to 1080i over component video.

Flat panels are not necessarily an improvement in picture quality over CRT or DLP.

I wanted to get a Brillian LCoS rear projection TV, as I thought they had probably the best image available at the time. Unfortunately they went under before I could get the money together to buy one. So it goes...

I have a 2-year-old JVC 70" LCoS that we really love...we have a long living room, so we're sitting about 15' away from the set...perfect! Got it at Costco for around $2300...glad we did!
