Not clear whether VP8 WebM codec will be subject to license fees
It's not clear that the VP8 WebM codec will be free of encumbrances. The code could incorporate inventions of others who wish to be compensated. (Unknowing re-invention of someone else's invention does not free one from obligations.) It will be a while before we know whether VP8 is truly free from encumbrances.
