From what I can tell the only difference is the 8000 adds local dimming. This feature has nothing to with accurate performance and negatively impacts that aspect. It will create a perception of deeper blacks and higher contrast than one without the feature.
The following pretty much nails the problem with this feature...

In the end I would tell you to turn the feature off so buying the 8000 would make no sense for me. You might feel otherwise...As for local dimming, the jury is still out for me. I like high contrast and a deep black is the key to a great image. But I have to believe that the local dimming must introduce some sort of visible artifacts, simply because there are image elements that span dimmed and non-dimmed regions. I haven't spent enough time with one of these sets to know if I am able to notice (and be bothered by) these artifacts, which is why I'm not sure if it's a problem or not. But I'm cautious about endorsing it as a solution.
