Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD73833 - 3rd optical engine!

A month after the replacement, a similar set of spots showed up on the left side of the screen. Again, the optical engine was replaced (just a week ago). Now it seems that another spot is beginning to show up again with the 3rd optical engine.

The spots are visible regardless of input source, and are even visible after the unit is turned off before the lamp shuts down. With all the optical engine replacements, it seems to me that maybe something else is damaging the mirror arrays, and every time the tech replaces the optical engine, the new one eventually breaks.

Has anyone seen something similar to this problem? I've uploaded photos of the spots if anyone cares to take a look:

If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know!

I'm having the same issue with my brand new 60737. The TV was great for about a month, then started developing a white "haze" on the right side. One tech came out and said it was "normal operation". I argued that it wasn't. I was then contacted again by Mitsubishi and told they will send another tech, BUT if they say the same thing I HAVE to pay for it! This is ridiculous. I know it's not normal, what can I do??

:?: That guy is talking about spots and you are using the term haze... that's not the same...

Not sure what is going on. Have you discussed this problem with your retailer?

The tech said it was a light engine failure. Waiting on part now...

This set was manufactured in August of 2009 and I opened it out of the box on December 23rd. The "haze" started appearing two weeks later. Is it normal for something like that to fail so soon? I'm worried if I'm going to have constant problems out of this set seeing as it's failing right out of the gate.

Glad that somebody was able to assist you with this problem.

I get asked that regularly... slap any brand you want on the front of your TV, it could be them instead. In the end, failure of your TV is all in the draw of the cards. The difference is if you can get service and support, and currently Mitsubishi is in the upper ranks for that. Bear in mind this stuff is made by human beings and that is why it comes with a warranty against defects or workmanship. Plenty of technologies and devices on this planet fail under warranty, is repaired and continues to function for a normal life span without trouble.
