Slow changing channels

Post by Anonymously Submitted »

Why does my 52" Samsung LCD screen go black and then display the definition of the new picture when I change channels? This process slows down channel selection and viewing. Is there any way to deactivate this feature? Comcast says its not a deficiency in their system. Samsung says Comcasts signal is too weak and unstable.

There are possibilities and a combo can really be rough.

Using component video instead of HDMI can make a difference. But...

If your cable or satellite box is set for anything other than one scan rate then you will have this problem. If you have it set on native it is even worse. It will be worse with HDMI than component for the same settings. The reason is because the scan rate is changing and everything has to resync before a picture appears. With such settings many will find the delay longer going from one specific channel to another yet with many other channels the delay is short. The lengthy one is due to a scan rate change and the short one means there is no scan rate change.

Even if you use just one scan rate there may be a delay. Using Component might help.

HDTV does not surf nearly as well as the TVs of the past and some delay is common now but the length of the delay can vary based on the HDTV design or the box design feeding it. Again, using component might help.

SLOW CHANNEL CHANGING ...

Our Sonys did "do" similarly w/ certified 1.3 HDMIs - and - whenever swapped out to Component, the issue was solved / minimized to a large extent. No Problems for all 'HD" broadcasts - - {obviously, N.G. for Blu Ray, Up-Converting DVD Players, or most new Game Consoles, but that's NOT the issue at hand.}

And, those Component Cables suggested by Richard should be appropriate ones, too, as opposed to the "peg board varieties" seen @ the local mass outlets, Wal-Marts, etc..

Too many Component Cable Sets are quite poor . . . RG59 / 28 gauge / poor RCA Tips . . . .

Under $16.

"IF" you have Surround Sound, here's the (3) cable R/G/B Set, @ <$11 . . .
