It was in September of last year that we first got wind that OPPO was developing a Blu Ray player. Since then we have received a boatload of emails asking us when it would become available. The good news for those who have asked is the answer is it is available today! The BDP-83 can be found online for $499.99 and is available...

Having had my OPPO BDP-83 for some time now I have to agree with just about everything stated in the review. A very, very nice piece of equipment that delivers on the promise. I'm glad that the only thing that OPPO took from the Apple Playbook is the "minimalistic and elegant" design. I sure as heck wouldn't want this wonderful player to only possess skin-deep beauty while costing twice as much for half the functionality. As it turns out, the BDP-83 is quite a bargain, even at it's ~$500 price point. I was seriously considering the much more expensive Denon Blu-ray player and I'm glad I didn't take the bait. I also feel that the BDP-83 will not be replaced with another model in 3-6 months while leaving current customers out in the cold with no reasonable upgrade path. OPPO seems much more interested in supporting their customer base than polishing their image.
A great product which should force other manufacturers to get their act together in a rather slow developing Blu-ray hardware world.
