HDCP problem between Motorola QIP7001 and Toshiba 40RV525U FIOS

Just bought two of the above HD tv's. First I've ever owned.
Upgraded from standard set tops to the HD settops which
are Motorola QIP7001 models.
Hook HDMI from the settop to the Toshiba and the very first
time you see "HDCP authentication error".
After that you can tune an HD channel and it will display for about
one minute then to go to a green screen with sound.
Verizon says some HDTV's are not compatible with their boxes.
Huh? Is HDMI a standard or not, who should I go after here.
Both TV's display identical symptoms on two different settops.
Help!

Contact Toshiba to see if there has been a firmware update. That's about all you can do. Typically it is the provider who is at fault...

Would it not be the case for him that until / unless he gets a Blu ray / needs that 1080p & 1.3 HDMi a proper set of Component Cables would "do?"

True, the component cables do work. Need extra audio cables then of course.
Just irritating that the HDMI won't and should.
Can you tell the difference in quality between HDMI and compnent?
Seems like some say yes and some say no...

There doesn't have to be a difference but since HDMI is king they tend to spend more effort on that part of the design.

Ultimately the difference in performance for your product requires testing to find out. Since most folks do not use HD to it's full potential, 3 screen heights, more than likely any difference is buried in the long viewing distance most use.

" IF " you either do now or will soon have a Surround System - you will anyway.... most allow a digital audio coaxial or optical audio connection between the set top box & Surround Receiver. Then, it's just the (3) Component cables strictly from that HD cable box directly to your Toshiba . No periodic .." Digital Rights Management " .. issues that way.

And, no, as before .... certified 1.3. HDMIs are only mandatory for 1080p Blu Ray Movies or intense Games.... as Richard posted, should be no picture quality improvements in 720p 0r 1080i over Quality Component Cables..... mostly a matter of "convenience" w/ HDMI, although I have found the "RCA" tips to be far more secure than the limited engagement / holding power of HDMIs.

Now a question about the controversy of the expensive gold plated (Monster, etc)
component cables vs the cheaper ones.

I don't believe there is a damn bit of difference in noticable picture
quality over short distances.

Opinions?

Ha.....well my older son has drunk the coolaid and believes the
Monster bs.

I was an electronics technician (radar) in the navy for 10 years so
I am familiar with the electrical characteristics involved.

I do not believe that at low frequencies and short distances, there is a difference between a
good cheap cable and a monster.

At high freqs and for long distances, I believe some better quality could
make a difference due to capacitance etc.

I told my son I would buy him the cheap cables and he can buy the
high dollar ones. Then I would double blind test him 5 times and randomly
put one or the other and if he could pick which was which, I'd pay him
for the high dollar ones.......:>)

We'll see!
