This is not a typical topic for the HT Guys but recently we received a lot of emails about the fact the HBO series “Game of Thrones†is the most pirated show today. We stated that if the show was available for download at a reasonable price it wouldn’t be pirated as much. A listener wrote us and gave us his take (Pirating American TV Programs) on why show are pirated outside the US.

Re: HDTV and Home Theater Podcast - Podcast #536: Movie and TV Piracy
This article is right on. In my mind, there are too many ridiculous barriers to me paying a fair price for what I want. Here is how I approach movies and I think for many people it would be the same:
I will watch a handful of movies per year in the theater. Less than i used to, partly because i have a family now. Typically, can't miss blockbusters and epics that I feel are maximized by the theater experience. I have a home theater, but I know Mission Impossible ghost protocol or Avatar will be at their best on a big screen. I am perfectly okay with giving theaters first crack and exclusive access to movies. However, once i get past the theater stage i find it nearly impossible to pay for a good solution that will allow me to catch the movies I missed. I pay for HBO, Cinemax, both of their on-demand options and Netflix both streaming and one at a time disc and still it feels like it does not cover the best movies of the last 12 months. It always seems like you are pushed to pay- per-view or iTunes or blu-ray disc , which I begrudgingly do from time to time but still feel cheated because none of my other options are working well. This is a reason why torrents are so appealing to some.
I have a beef with shows too.i can't figure out why sometimes you cannot find the first episode of a show anywhere, or why the previous season would inaccessible just when the next season is about to start and you would love to come on board.Again, this is partly why torrents provide an avenue to many.
