The worldwide economic downturn put a damper on consumer demand for televisions, according to NPD DisplaySearch’s Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report. LCD? No way
Actually, I am looking for another panel to add to my never-ending inventory at this exact moment, and, recognizing what image quality is, chances are that LCD (LED or not, local, edge lit, or not) will be the last thing I will buy.
Plasma has been always my first choice since Pioneer Elite Kuro was the king, and it will be again now even considering that the panel may be used for video games, streaming, and young person viewing (my 25 year old Son), but he is a professional videographer and photographer and he knows how to appreciate image quality, is in the blood.
However, before I sign my check, I will take a closer look at what LD Display announces on Monday for the new OLED regarding pricing and availability, and I will view their new 55" OLED panel looking for image problems or admiring perfection as I do all the time.
I have very little apreciation of LG Display's passive 3D movement but in this case I take my hat off for the effort they are doing for OLED large panel development, they had the guts to put their money where their mouth was at CES 2011, and I sincerelly hope they are succesful if the panel is as good as I know it should be, specially if plasma is forced to leave the market by the pressure of lower quality mass oriented LCD panels.
No LCD is ever going to be welcomed in my house, not even for free, and I am the Sheriff, my dollar would never go to that kind or R&D, and if I ever have an excess of room light in the viewing environment I rather deal with curtains and windows than to compromise image quality or having to view straight to the panel.
Best Regards,
Rodolfo La Maestra

Re: HDTV Almanac - LED TVs to Dominate World Market
Rodolfo, I have to confess we have one LCD in our BR, and the Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-151FD in the family room/HT room. My wife watches the LCD and we watch the Pioneer, as do I.
I had to get one LCD, for this, but it will be my last. Even the Elite by Sharp has issues beyond what the Pioneer does.
Maybe 4K OLED will better the Kuro, and maybe not. When I see it this week at CES maybe I'll have glimpse of what's in store.

Rodolfo, I would never think that your tastes in HDTVs would ever match those of the average buyer.
