When I received this press release from Korea last night I renewed my hopes for the market to actually bring a true competitor of what Pioneer Elite Kuro was and still is in regard to image quality, blacks detail, angle of view, colors, contrast ratio, etc.

I requested more information about pricing, availability and specs, including 3D capabilities, which judging by the direction LG Display has chosen for their LCD panels I will be surprised if they switch back to active-shutter.

However, a passive panel at double resolution (1920x2196) or even 4K (faux or true 4K DCI) could be a solution for the half resolution constraint of passive panel technology, add to that the display quality of OLED at an affordable price and the 3D/HD panel market reopens to a new, much needed, phase.

My primary target at CES this year is new technology implementations for better image quality. OLED, 4K, and autostereoscopic 3DTV will certainly be at the show. To that end I booked about 50 meetings at CES, two with LG, and I trust this OLED set will be introduced at the press conference the day before CES starts, but usually not many technical details are provided other than a verbal presentation of similar "forward looking" PR statements, so I requested a meeting for a private demo and to get more information from engineers.

I have not received yet information from other big companies such as Sony, Panasonic and Samsung about introducing their own large screen OLEDs at CES as well, but I hope they do so.

I am looking forward to finally see OLED technology fill the promise and come to market at affordable prices. I will keep you posted as soon as I get more details.

Best Regards,
