streaming on my hdtv

Post by griffithimage »

Hi, in my effort to reduce my massive cable bill each month, I've got myself a boxee box and have watched alot of streaming content in the hopes of being able to get rid of my cable tv subscription. The picture quality however of the streamed content on my 40 inch screen isn't that great. Is there a way to upconvert the streaming content to make it look better?
Thanks

If the image is already filling your screen, then your television is doing the upconverting for you. The problem is that the quality of upconversion depends largely on the quality of the source image. The best electronics in the world cannot invent detail that's not present in the source data, and if the Boxee stream is a highly-compressed standard resolution (or less), you may not be able to get something that looks good on a large high-definition panel.
