Pioneer Kuro sets do not have to be viewed in the dark. The light output is not nearly as low as the article would indicate. I watch one all the time during the day in a room with moderate light. Of course it looks better when the room is darker but the difference is not as enormous as most would think.
Unfortunately there is very little interest from the American public in quality any more--especially if it costs anything. Audio and video are both deteriorating in quality as the bad drives out the good.

Sadly, so true.Unfortunately there is very little interest from the American public in quality any more--especially if it costs anything. Audio and video are both deteriorating in quality as the bad drives out the good.
The apathy that seems to be toward 'stuff' in general in America these days is scary. Buying cheap has become the norm. And then when the crap breaks down the attitude is one of almost rage. The buyer thinks they got screwed. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! If that new 47" flat screen only cost you 300 bucks, there's a reason for it. It's garbage to begin with.

I love my Kuro Elite 151 replacement of a dead 1.75 years old 150, which Pioneer granted me in April 2010. I can view it in light and dark.
Would I buy this as a replacement if the Kuro died? I don't think so. None of these sets will match the Kuro.
