Post by alfredpoor »

I was sitting in a restaurant lounge the other day, waiting for a take-out order to be prepared, and I was watching a sports channel on their flat screen televisions. I agree with the main point of your story, but it reminded me of a recent occurrence, and why I'm glad I have satellite service ...

We had a fairly significant storm come through my town a couple weeks ago. As expected we list signal for about 10 minutes ... and then lost power for about an hour.

Once power came back on, we could once again watch TV ... but many of my neighbors were still waiting 2 days later to get their cable service restored.

I'll take the minor amount of "rain fade" every once in a while. I've been with my satellite company for nearly 14 years ... and I'll never go back to cable.

I too will take the minor "fades" in the satellite signal as it usually only affects my reception when the storms are between the direction the dish is pointed and the transmitting satellite. I'd say that the quality of the signal overall is much better and more consistent than "cable". Customer service also seems much better without the companies trying to "nickel and dime" you to death with rate increases or whatever new name they can think of to "soak" you for more money.

Satellite should not count

Personally would agree with the core of your article
That Satellite is not effective competition in sparse or
otherwise challengened viewing areas
