HDTV Almanac - SID 2011: Green Displays

Yesterday, I attended a special conference-within-a-conference about Green Displays, hosted by IMS Research. It turns out that this topic runs deep and wide, but there was one particular aspect that I thought would be worth sharing. Consider the following comparison between two Sony 46″ LCD HDTVs.

Well, I won't be so bold as to attribute this to California Energy restrictions....but I think it is safe to say that those restrictions did not destroy the industry. Personally, at least technically, a little restriction seems to go a long way with innovations. I will have to guess but I do not think the model mentioned is using 3M's newly announced film that apparently will make all this even better - thinner, lighter, less LEDs needed, less energy needed overall. Pretty cool.
