I got a Vizio VA26L10T from Walmart....The Tru volume crud drives me nuts...with it on volume varies in movies .....and DVDs....with it off it's fine but then i have to crank up all the way...I'm on a old guys retiree budget and don't want to shell out for a sound bar right now...
It bugs me that Vizio that the tv can get plenty of volume with the TRUvolume on but not off....Is there another reliable 26 inch brand with enough volume and without this sound leveling?
if so I'm returning to Wally world.
Vizio..Return or not?

As you posted, budget constraints affect us all, myself included, of course!
Technically speaking, - - There are nearly-zero 'HD' capable display panels ..OR.. proper Audio Systems in that size of display ... Requires an "ISP" panel or, at-the-least, something Much, Much more than that set you picked!
Plus, 100% of the similar-sized "HDTVs" will have almost No Interior Spacing for proper speakers & certainly zero meaningful "Amp."
.... either "endure" what you've experienced ..OR.. Return it quickly while a full refund is allowed, as zero 26" sets will perform much better!
WAIT until circumstances Improve sufficiently for you to have at the least a proper 40" LCD / 42" Plasma set {always on Promotion!} w/ an inexpensive, separate Surround System for the Dolby 5.1 which comes with "HD" Broadcasts! ... cheaper than your posted "Sound Bar" - - as well!
Most of the spoken dialogue emits from the Center, Front Speaker within a 5.1 System .... and, YOU may select it to have even more "emphasis" too.
Even then, you'll STILL need to use the "Mute" during Commercials!

thanks eli
since that seems to be the way most are i guess for now i'll keep it since I was watching a 13 inch crt type before and get a larger HDTV down the road..it was the volume going up and down on movies I record and on DVD's bugging me but I guess i can turn all the Trulvolume and truhd and get a cheap vizio sound bar since the tv only has a SPDIF output

Tom -
How are you recording any "Movies" now, please? .... between no more analog signaling & "Do Not Copy" bits embedded in the beginning software of 99% (?) of our movies, I should have thought that you would have zero success! ...local cable limited channels service w/ one of their in-house hard drive recorders & then, downloading? ... OR ... one of the VCR/DVD Recording & up-converting Units w/ an internal digital tuner such as SAMs has?
None-the-less, I'm STILL for the return that Vizio {not my favorite piece of hardware, you see!} / get a refund / go to your local thrift stores & buy any one of their large screen, Top Name old CRT sets! {Sony Trinitron, etc.} cable service, no problems / OTA? - use a Converter Box ..... better off in the long run, in my opinion. - - - eli
p.s. - One chief reasoning being that no Vizio Set under 32" ever has any "local Servicing permitted!" .... YOU must "foot-the-bill" for round trip, prepaid, insured shipping to / from a Central clearing house!!! Most @ 32" WILL have In-Home Service!!
