Fascinating look back at the early Leonard Cohen, especially coming on the heels of his recent tour this year. He's woken up at 4am to take the stage in a desperate effort to calm the rioting crowds down. That festival was a five day affair filled with political protesting, fires, bad weather and rowdy crowds. It all came to a climax with Jimmy Hendrix's incendiary set. Cohen came on shortly after and magically calmed the crowd with his unique brand of music. I'm very late to the Cohen bandwagon and it was nice to see his more raw early poetic renderings then his now polished performances 40 years later.
The prodcuers of this DVD did wonders with the sound and pictures. Remarkable, actually. Just wish it were longer.
I was hooked about ten years ago when I bumped into a repeat of an Austin City Limits show he did in the 80's. If you're a Cohen fan this show is worth hunting down on Google. I found it. The quality sucks but the show is great.
