Why not just plug a USB TV tuner into your laptop. A lot cheaper!

Good point. But keep in mind that this is much smaller and lighter than even a netbook; it's more like a small Kindle in size. For some people, that will be much more convenient. And there are also some people who want to watch TV who don't have a notebook computer.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea, BUT I would hold out to see if the M-DTV comes to market. Assuming M-DTV catches on, that would allow for a more robust reception in less than ideal conditions and if the M-DTV stations are down, the M-DTV will still receive the regular DTV signals.
