I’ve been using a Samsung UN46C7000 3D LCD TV for a couple of days now. Here are my first impressions of 3DTV in other than a retail or trade show viewing environment.

3D
As you correctly note, to properly watch 3-D you cannot be more than 1 1/2 screen sizes away. because of this, ESPN 3-D is not a good sample to review. ESPN 3-D is 720p TnP-- or half the resolution of 720p -- that is not high definition; and at a distance of 1 1/2 times the screen size, the image is poor. Get a "live" (not animation) 3-D blu ray, and then you can give a valid review of 3-D in the home environment. Some I have seen are so good that I consider them to be a form of virtual reality, not TV.

We agree on 720p; but is 1/2 the resolution of 720p high def.?
BTW, I would like to formally apologize to Dale--back during our Blu-Ray/HD-DVD debates, I accused him of being suckered in by the argument that Blu-Ray had more disc capacity--which I alleged was virtually a worthless consideration. As I now luxuriate in the 3D joy that extra capacity permits, I hereby eat my words.
