Last spring, I wrote about Netflix demo’ing its streaming service on a Windows Phone 7 operating system. Now comes word that Netflix is releasing free applications for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch that will let subscribers access streaming content on these portable devices.

Well ... don't forget, NETFLIX has announced it will be available for andriod phones in a coming app version for those users. It'll be some time, though.

Yeah, like I really want to watch a TV program (or movie) on my SmartPhone! I don't want to watch on my computer. I would have even less desire to watch on a phone!

I hear you. I would much rather read a good novel in a large, hardcover edition. I'll settle for a paperback. Reading it on my phone would definitely not be my first choice. BUT it might make the list. If I'm cooling my heels at the Department of Motor Vehicles waiting to get my license renewed, or in a doctor's waiting room, or any number of other places where the options for entertainment -- or just even diversion -- are limited, I could see how reading a book on my phone might be appealing.

By the same token, watching a TV show or movie on a phone screen is clearly less than optimal, but for me it's better than a dog-eared copy of Reader's Digest.

And tests have shown clearly that there are lots of people who are very interested in watching video on their phones and other portable devices. I'm not sure that I'm one of them, but I can understand that point of view.

Meet you half way... The Kindle app on an Android phone - especially if I can move the book from my Kindle to the phone - would be a really good idea. TV/Movies on the phone, still no.
