Mitsubishi WD-73831 Short Lamp Life

Post by leetheleo »

I had a lamp fialure about a 18 months ago. The original lamp lasted about 3 years, I think the TV was purchsed in 2006. I replaced it with an aftermarket lamp. The 2nd lamp lasted about 1 year and then I had a lamp light come on. I replaced the 2nd lamp about 4 months ago with an aftermarket and this one just went out. When the 1st lamp went out it went totally black. When the 2nd lamp went out it would shut the TV down and after a while the tv could be started and would come on for a few hours. The 3rd lamp is showing the same symptoms as the 2nd lamp but will only come on for a few minutes. My gut feel is this is not a lamp issue, it's probably a temperature build up issue. I've never taken the back off and cleaned out any dust. The latest failure shows on the front of the tv a red lamp LED and no other led on front lit. I purchased a service manual. It's coming up with an error code of 34. Because the tv will run for short periods of time I suspect this may be a dirt issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Get your lamp directly from Mits and that should be the end of it.
