I guess it's a shame that the Apple I-Pad is a 4:3 device.....

At full resolution (1024x768), yes. But 1024x576 video (16:9) can look quite good on good hardware. I would swear up and down that the 11" Sony OLED was an HD picture, even though it's limited to 960x540.

Bottom line: Let you're eyes be the judge, not the spec sheet.

Full disclosure: I do not own an iPad, nor do I plan on purchasing one.
