Sony CRT DV KD-30SX955 - HDMI stopped working

Post by Anonymously Submitted »

Have a Sony KD-30SX955 with Dish DVR and Sony BDP-S350 Blue Ray player. the Dish DVR is connected with componet cables to video 5 on the TV, and blue Ray player was connected to the single HDMI connection (video 7) on the TV. Yesterday the HDMI connection stop working. I moved the player to the second TV using HDMI connection and worked great. I used different HDMI cables and no luck with Sony KD-30SX955. Can a HDMI connection on the TV fail? Sony website says reset tv to factory settings. I thought of using a Psycolone HDMI switch to have the DISH DVR and Blue Ray player filter through to singel TV HDMI connections. What do you recomment?

I don't see how an HDMI switch resolves a broken HDMI input on your TV. Try the factory reset and also an AC reboot - unplug the TV for one minute and plug it back in. If it still does not work it is time for service...

That said, you don't really need HDMI. Your TV is also native 480p and should provide a great DVD image in that mode using component video cables. Blu-ray will still output 1080i over component. About the only reason you need HDMI in your application is to get the Blu-ray HD audio codecs out of the player for your HD audio codec or PCM multichannel ready A/V receiver.
