Yeah they said that about 78's, 45's, 4 & 8 tracks and cassettes as well... Oh course the difference being that these things still exist in some form or another, but 1's and 0's good luck... And storing your stuff in cyberspace ad nauseaum - good luck on that one too.

I think that that is a given although some of my musician buddies are concerned that hardly anyone buys the entire album these days, prefering to "cherry pick" the tracks, so some of the same "rules" apply.
I ONLY purchase DVD's & BluRays that I will watch at least once a year, such as "Band of Brothers" or "Generation Kill". Having an entire bookcase of once viewed movies is a waste of space, in my opinion. I have been on a time consuming mission of copying my non prerecorded VCR movies unto DVD to save space.
At some point in your life (60's for me) I have just acquired entirely too much stuff. I have been on a quest to eliminate ANYTHING that doesn't get used at least once a year.
The new music paradigm, with many artists marketing directly has caught the attention of the video industry to be sure, especially since many companies have their hands in both pies, like Sony. It's a perfect opportunity for them to wrest control back over their content.
