NOT-In-Any-Way to make light of your situation, please give consideration one of these reduced Sony HDTVs - available w/ internal TV Guide and totally w/o any "falderal" whatever .... you simply input your ZIP within the initial set up menu w/ that Sony Remote & you are "OFF-TO-THE-RACES!"
Automatically updates each & every Channel during "wee" hours ... all for "Free!"
Of course, this doesn't in any way "salvage" that LG DVR . . .
eli
here is "link" .... { much better w/ 'Firefox' ...}
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... n=Category
In Particular - here IS one W/a modest pricing ....

Good Price.
That is a good price, if I was in the market for a new TV. But, I want a DVR.
The LG DVR is currently connected to a 48" Toshiba HDTV. Sadly, I purchased it before the digital conversion. But, I'm very happy with the picture quality.

hi ...
Certainly, you HAVE already "done" a great, new HDTV !
BUT - consider a TIVO to properly go w/ it .... often much cheaper w/ "Web Specials" particularly in their O.T.A.-HD units ...
eli
P.S. - - - Today's listed Web Special, in fact ! . . . . https://www3.tivo.com/store/boxes.do?ty ... enewed_199
Be very skeptical as to that DTVPal "converter" ever being a long-lived OR dependable unit !
MOST have been received "D.O.A." / in need of immediate Updates / Useless / Out Of Warranty in-a-very-short-while, with mostly a cool reception - IF any response at all @ their Customer Service Group!

I'm not sure if the connection matters, but you'll want to select the analog signal to the DVR with the channel for your CBS affiliate, and let it hunt for Guide info.do I connect it to the Antenna connection or the cable connection?
If I use the cable connection, what signal type do I select for the box?

LG LST 3410a - How to find a GLink Cable - TV Guide now working
Success! TV Guide working, again.
I bought a DTVPalPlus. It comes with full directions on how to set up to receive TV Guide on a connected DVR. I don't know how reliable the unit will be. I do Know it works! Artec, also, makes a unit that will work.
My biggest problems was finding GLink Replacement. I checked everywhere. Finally, I found a cable called an IR Blaster. It was only $7, on Ebay. The seller thought it would work. He knew it would work on a Sony.
I received it, yesterday. Set everything up, per the manual. This morning, I have TV Guide back.
As far as the Tivo, I did check them out. They offer a lot of programing benefits. It can record 2 channels at one time. Plus stream Netflix movies. Rumor has it, Blockbuster will soon start streaming through Tivo. I bought an Upgraded Series3 HD Tivo, before I found the cable. It can record, up to 157 hrs of HD. I will use it in the family room & the LG in the bedroom.
Thank you for all of the help & advice. Also, TV Guide service was very helpful. LG wouldn't even help me find a replacement cable for the GLink Cable. They just said they had discontinued all information for that unit.

Great 'update!' - - - congrats on your perseverance !!
And, just a note of " f.y.i. " before trying & becoming slightly disappointed ?
. . . . No HD hard drive, dual tuner currently available can "DO" 157 HD hours recording per se !! That would be a 'stretch' even with their available external eSATA auxiliary hard drive @ an additional ( one) 1 Terabyte! .. here, for more info re: HD Capacity ... ...
http://www.tivo.com/mytivo/howto/getcon ... acity.html
ONLY ~ 20 hours of HD recording for that Ser 3 as a stand-alone.
Good watching!

Eli,
It is an Upgraded Series 3 HD Tivo.
The upgrade is a new quiet Western Digital 1Terabyte hard disk for recording 157 Hrs. HD recording 1367 Hrs.Standard Def.
That's what the Ad said. In checking specs for Western Digital ! Terabyte hard disk. It says 120 Hours. Tivo XL has the same hard disk & their ad says 150 Hours.
At any rate, it will hold a lot more, than the LG. Thank you for recommending to check on the Tivo. By the way, did I mention --- It was on their site that I saw the cable I needed. Tivo used it on their Series 2.

I'm glad to hear that you persevered, and were able to get things working again on the LG with the TVGuide service. Good for you.
I also appreciate your returning here to let us know of your success with the DTVPal-plus unit. I'm sure that will be helpful to others finding themselves in the same boat as yourself. All too often, people request assistance online, then once they get it and have solved their problem, you never hear from them again.
So thanks for taking the time to share your experiences.

That's about right. The capacity of any hard drive for HD content is going to vary, depending on the source bit-rate. For example, some channels are as little as 4GB/hour, while others are as much as 8 GB/hour. I find that 6GB/hour is the norm for OTA channels, as well as the average of the min and max. So that's not a bad metric to use.
Since a 1TB drive has an actual capacity of 931GB, and TiVo will reserve a bit of that for overhead functions, 150 hours or so is a very reasonable estimate. If you recorded exclusively from lower-quality channels, it could be as much as 230 hours. Conversely, if you recorded just highest-quality channels (e.g. the HDNets on cable), it could be as low as 110 hours.
> At any rate, it will hold a lot more, than the LG. <
BTW, the LST-3410A can be upgraded as well, simply by installing a larger hard drive. I don't think 1 TB is feasible, but 2x-3x its stock capacity should be possible. I never bothered to do it, but others on the AVS Forum have done so successfully.
